Foraging Blueberries in Anchorage

Posted on Posted in Foraging Stories

Kim and her friend Cory went on one of their favorite hikes the other day at Bear Mountain in Chugach Park near Anchorage, Alaska.

While hiking, they noticed bog blueberries (Vaccinium uliginosum ssp alpinum) that were already ripe! They were pleasantly surprised to see them a month early.

Kim and Cory each gathered a handful to snack on at the summit before the rain came up the valley. Then, they ventured back down.
